Like his musical hero, Rob Garrett was a Brooklyn, New York native.
In May 1974, his parents relocated from New York City to the Las Vegas Valley, where, in 1976, he witnessed his first live Neil Diamond show when Diamond debuted in Las Vegas to record crowds at the Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts (now “PH Live”) in July 1976.
Garrett went on to see him 16 more times across the country—right up until Diamond’s last American show at the LA Forum on August 12, 2017.
In 1980, Garrett formed his own band, “Rock n Roll Heaven,” and enjoyed a decade-and-a-half career in Las Vegas and across the nation before deciding to move from cover band frontman to a full-time tribute performer dedicated to one of his boyhood inspirations.
In 1995, Garrett was hand-picked by Paul Revere, leader of “The Raiders” to portray Neil Diamond in the world-famous “Legends in Concert” review.
What was meant to be a limited run turned into a long-term hit show.
By August 1998, Garrett was back in Vegas and continued to perform with “Legends” for another two years before deciding to launch his own show.
He began a nationwide performance schedule, building a large and loyal following along the way—earning the title “King of Diamonds Las Vegas.”
He continues to draw packed houses nationwide, often in venues fit for superstars.
Garrett has also earned several honors, including “Male Tribute Artist of the Year.”
“Since Neil Diamond retired, I’ve felt a strong sense of responsibility to keep his legacy alive for future generations. It’s something I never get tired of doing,” he said.
On May 19, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman officially proclaimed the date “Rob Garrett Day,” commemorating Rob’s 50 years as a Las Vegas resident and 44 years as a professional Vegas performer.
